Whitney Houston told us long ago that children are our future. We couldn’t agree more! We’re launching our newly designed lesson plans for our county’s children in Kindergarten - 8th grade.

Environmental Lessons for K-8

After months of work and collaborations with curriculum and environmental specialists, MGE has created a new set of lesson plans for teachers and schools in Cobb County. Specific to grade level and subject, these new interdisciplinary lesson plans link sustainability basics to Georgia state education standards.

For example, the Native Plants vs. Invasive Plants lesson for Grades 4-5 explores the critical balance between native and invasive plant species and their impact on ecosystems while covering standards relating to the flow of energy, the effect of change in ecosystems, the role of microorganisms and more.

Available in English and Spanish, lesson plans can be used by teachers in the classroom or taught as a part of MEG’s In-House Field Trips, taught by subject matter experts. Each lesson plan includes learning objectives, vocabulary, hands-on activities, and a list of standards covered. The Spanish lessons in particular provide a unique opportunity for ESOL classes to learn environmental vocabulary and topics in a hands-on way.
