Ripple Glass is making waves in Atlanta! This Kansas City-based company expanded into Metro Atlanta in 2023, dedicated to giving glass a second life and saving it from the landfill. Its signature purple bins can be found at 34 locations across the region, including seven locations in Cobb County already.
Ripple Glass makes glass recycling easy and free to all. Atlanta Metro Program Manger Jamey Moran knows first hand how something as small as recycling a glass bottle can add up to make a big impact. Jamey’s first home was on a state park! With a father as a state park officer, her childhood was spent outside with nature as her playground. As a person in tune with nature, she began to see it changing as she grew older. “Having kids was also a turning point for me. I realized that nature wasn’t just for me anymore, it was also for them.”
Jamey saw how small actions add up to make a big impact. Driven to help be a part of the recycling solution, she worked on her own business offering a curbside glass collection service. “The amount of glass I would collect would amaze me. I started keeping track and learned that on average, my customers were collecting 22lbs of glass in a month, that was adding up to over two tons of glass that was being diverted from the landfill every 30 days,” Jamey stated. Now as a part of Ripple Glass, she builds partnerships to establish collection points and spreads the word about how easy it is to recycle glass. Collected glass is transported to Ripple’s parent company, Strategic Materials located in College Park, where it is processed for reuse into new bottles, jars, and fiberglass insulation.
Jamey is a firm believer that everyone can take steps toward living a sustainable life and that every little bit helps. Begin with not taking a plastic bag at the grocery store when you only purchased a couple items. Take old plastic bags, bottles, and styrofoam cups to the grocery store to recycle when you shop. And of course, drop all your glass in a Ripple Glass collection bin. These small actions add up!
My Green Earth is proud to partner with Jamey through Ripple Glass but also in her partnership as our Board Chair. Said Jamey, “What is so special about My Green Earth is that we work with any group to meet you where you are. Whether this is your first foray into sustainability or you’re ready for the next step, we’ll provide the resources and information to continue your journey.”
Jamey feels it's imperative to demystify recycling. Misinformation is everywhere, but My Green Earth is a source of correct, accurate information for Cobb County.
